One of the last senior Tibetan medical physicians in exile and an old friend of Dr. Pasang Yonten recently passed away in New Delhi: Dr. Tashi Yangphel Tashigang (1938–2021), an internationally celebrated scholar-practitioner and pioneering publisher of historical Sowa Rigpa texts. Together with Dr. Lobsang Tashi, who passed away a few years ago, he was one of the last surviving students of Lamen Khyenrap Norbu, Lhasa Mentsikhang’s founder and personal physician of the Thirteenth Dalai Lama. Both eminent doctors trained in Lhasa and provided great service to Tibetan and Himalayan communities and beyond.
