The Tibetan Medicine course B
(DIstant learning only)

The content of the course is basically the same as in option A, but students don't participate in the on-site workshops in Europe.

There are no specific prerequisites to follow the Tibetan Medicine course but, due to the detailed and deep topics studied, it is demanding. Students are then expected to study the material in depth between the sessions.

This comprehensive program covers all the main aspects of Tibetan medicine theory, diagnosis and practice in its traditional form based on Gyud-shi, the Four medical Tantras, but also embraces its contemporary explanation, development and application.

The course is set up in 3 successive levels:
1st year:  Basic: theory (start in September 2010)

TEACHING METHODS
The course gathers different tools to help the student get knowledge at its best:

Distant learning (Basic, Intermediate and advanced levels)
- Four times a year, students will receive the theory, in the form of book chapters (downloadable documents.)
- They will also receive by post commentaries and explanations on these texts, in the form of audio and/or video recordings given by Dr Pasang Arya (more than 250 hours throughout the 3 years).
- Students study this material at their pace within the year.
- Once a month (except in December, July and August), students will participate in a three-hour interactive online teaching session. During these sessions, Dr Pasang Arya will directly teach and answer their questions and, depending on the needs, complement the teachings.

About the study books
The reference book for this three-year course study is “The Essentials of Gyud-shi”, a three book treatise written by Prof. Pasang Yonten Arya. This extensive work expounds and explains the traditional Gyud-shi (the Four medical Tantras), but also its contemporary practice and interpretation.

Student-teacher interaction
Beside the study material, 9 times a year, Dr. Pasang Arya will answer questions during the direct online sessions and, depending on the requests, complement them and give further advice.

EXAMINATION AND CERTIFICATION

Examination
There is an exam at the end of each year:

1st, 2nd and 3rd years:  Written exam, and oral exam through webcam.

It is compulsory to pass the exams in order to move on to the intermediate and advanced levels, and to get a certification (Theory) from TME.

Certification
At the end of the three-year course, students who have successfully passed all the exams will get a certification from TME. This certification attests the three-year study of Traditional Tibetan Medicine and its contemporary practice and interpretation.

Tibetan Medicine, like many other complementary medicines, is still not officially recognized in many countries. Students must then be aware that even if this certification attests their knowledge on Tibetan Medicine, it is not an authorization to practice per se, as legal recognition and licenses depend on the laws of each country.
Thus, the participants who are already medical doctors or who already have an official authorization to practice as naturopath practitioners in their country can receive the TME certificate as an attestation for their additional knowledge on Tibetan medicine and related techniques.
The participants who have not yet graduated in any medical complementary discipline will also receive the same certificate from TME, but in order to have a legal recognition in their country as a health practitioner, they may have to obtain extra certificates depending on their country laws.
